Supported accommodation · Crawley & West Sussex

Your home. Your independence. Our support.

A room of your own, in a house that is properly looked after, with someone keeping an eye out. That is what we provide — for adults who need a bit of help to keep a home, and for the professionals who need to know they have placed someone somewhere safe.

What this is

Ordinary houses, run properly

We are not a hostel and we are not a care home. We provide single rooms in residential houses, on a licence to occupy, with the day-to-day management that people with support needs actually need behind it.

A place that feels like theirs

Their own room, their own key, and privacy. Furnished, warm, and properly maintained. Notice before anyone comes in, except in an emergency.

People settle when somewhere feels like home rather than a placement, and settled people are easier to support.

Someone who notices

Regular contact, at a level agreed for the individual. Not surveillance — the kind of attention that picks things up early, when the post is piling up or someone has gone quiet.

Practical help too: with benefits, with the agreement, and with holding on to the accommodation.

Clear about what we are not

We do not provide personal care and we are not regulated by the Care Quality Commission. Where someone needs care, it comes from a separate provider set up and funded for it.

We work alongside them. Being clear about that line is how both jobs get done well.

Referrals

How a referral works

Four steps, and you will get an honest answer at each one. A quick no is worth more to you than a slow maybe.

You get in touch

Call, or send the referral form. Tell us about the person, what support they have, and who is funding it.

We assess

We look at whether the accommodation suits them, the risks, how they would get on with the people already there, and whether the funding works.

We answer

If we can help, we confirm the room, the date and the charges. If we cannot, we tell you why in plain terms.

They move in

Agreement signed and explained, handbook issued, support plan and risk assessment started with them, benefit claim raised.

Working with us

Straightforward to deal with

One person answers the phone and makes the decisions. You will not be passed around, and you will not have to chase us for an answer.

Properly documented

Safety, compliance and support are managed to the standards required of a supported housing provider. The records behind them are available to any funder, commissioner or inspector who asks.

Honest about charges

Rent and service charges are built from actual costs and itemised, with our position on Housing Benefit eligibility stated openly rather than buried.

Realistic about fit

We only accept a referral where we genuinely believe the accommodation is right. Placing someone who was never going to manage helps nobody.

A note from the Director
People do not need somewhere to be processed. They need a front door, a kettle, and somebody who notices when they have not been seen for a few days.

CRJ Living is a Community Interest Company, which means it exists to provide a service rather than to pay shareholders. We keep the number of houses small so that we can run them properly. If you have someone who needs a place, call me.
